Counseling For Insomnia

Sleep deprivation can have far reaching effects than just the physical sensation of being tired.

It’s not unlikely that most people will experience sleep loss at some point in their life. However, if the problem persists, sleeplessness can influence memory, concentration, result in heart problems, and even impact an individual’s ability to regulate emotions. It’s also worth noting that the brain repairs itself from daily stressors throughout the sleep cycle. Obviously, there are ample reasons to ensure that you are receiving the appropriate amount of sleep.

There are equally ample barriers that make that priority a challenge, including Insomnia. Insomnia can become a pervasive disorder when:

  • An individual has difficulty initiating and maintaining sleep
  • Awakes very early
  • Experiences poor quality, non-restorative sleep

At Silver Linings we are able to assess and treat Insomnia Disorders by using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I). CBT-I is a well-researched, short-term, behavioral approach that has shown to provide lasting results to both acute and chronic Insomnia. In fact, many clinicians recommend CBT-I as the first line of treatment. Unlike sleep medication, CBT-I can address the underlying causes of sleep disruption.

If you are wondering if you would qualify for treatment, call us today to set up a screening appointment with one of our trained professionals. If we determine that CBT-I would not be the best course of treatment for you, we are able to make referrals to other sleep professionals in the community.
